Adding blog thumbnails to search results (in Minimal Theme)

Hi Ryan,

I've added the new code and placed an about-us.jpg in my assets folder. I'm calling that image as

{% if item.handle == 'about-us' %}

<a href="{{ item.url }}"><img src="about-us.jpg"></a>

{% endif %}

... but a broken image thumbnail appears in the search. Screenshot here.  That broken image however is clickable. Am I possibly calling the image file incorrectly?

Thank you for your continued help on this. I know we've gone back an forth quite a bit in this thread now. Your help is incredibly appreciated.

Thanks,

John

Hi John,

Assets and files are stored on Shopify's cdn. As such you need to use a filter to find the correct url. Try using the asset_url filter: https://docs.shopify.com/themes/liquid-documentation/filters/url-filters#asset_url

Somehting like this should work:

{% if item.handle == 'about-us' %}

  <a href="{{ item.url }}"><img src="{{ 'about-us.jpg' | asset_url }}"></a>

{% endif %}

Thanks Brendin! It's fun being helpful plus I tend to learn a little bit more about Shopify by doing this.

Thanks John! I appreciate the the kind works.

Currently my company is trying to build out a business where we provide high quality support to Shopify merchants for a monthly fee. Helping out here on the forums is sort of practice for me plus I learn about the sort of issues merchants have. It's fun too. Solving your issue is like a fun puzzle.

If you have a few minutes I'd love to hear your feedback on our service. You can view our landing page here: https://320ny.com/shopify/

Don't be gentle. If you have any issues with the copy, clarity of what is offered, the price, etc... throw it at me.

Thanks,

Ryan

Hey Ryan,

Checked out your service yesterday and I think it's a great option for entrepreneur's looking to scale back on the amount of time they put into coding and changing the little things. Those hours can quickly add up and distract from the core business.

I've just launched a few weeks ago and so your price model would be a sticking point for me, and I imagine, any entrepreneur in the early stages of their shopify business. $499/mth prices you completely out for my needs in the next year or so.

If there were a tiered model for growing companies, something starting in the $99-$199/mth area and increasing from there, I think more businesses could obviously utilize your offering, become comfortable with your working relationship, and move up in tiers without any worry of it not fitting their needs.

For me, I'd need a couple months to gauge how much work is actually being taken off my plate, how the small job definition works for my needs, and at what level I'm utilizing the service. At a $499 investment, it woulnd't be a viable option to look at yet.

I like that there's no term commitment, that's a huge plus. And you've been an incredible help, so there is clearly tremendous upside to using the service.

Hope that helps.

Best,

John

Hi John,

Thanks a ton for the feedback.

Having tiered pricing options and what sort of support that supplies is something we are working on. There are a few other firms that provide similar services. Some are very affordable http://shopenhancer.com/ while others are a bit more expensive http://www.jimmyweb.net/services/shopify-development/ and http://www.shopifyninjas.com/join/. Even Bold has a service like this and their pricing is more condisive to what you would pay a professional developer: http://boldcommerce.com/ecommerce-webmaster-services. It's expensive but you are probably getting top talent.

Do you like the idea of unlimited small jobs better or a capped limit on hours in a plan like the Bold webmaster services? There is a balance between providing something affordable and how much work the service can provide. We want to provide high value but it still needs to be profitable.

Thanks,

Ryan

Hi John,

After reviewing all of the other firms that we know provide support and based on feedback from people such as yourself, we have adjusted our support offering long with the pricing.

Feel free to check it out here: https://320ny.com/shopify/

Any additional feedback would be awesome.

Thanks,

Ryan

Hye Ryan,

I think that's a fantastic move. Definitely a service I will look at now as my business and revenue grow.

As the business expands, I will be interested to see how many of my coding tasks turn out to be small jobs. I think for most of us, if our coding needs fall in line with the small job definition, it's a service worth the investment.

Thanks again for all of your help.

Best,

John
