Allow pre-orders for products

Hi all,

I am trying to follow the pre-order guide: https://help.shopify.com/en/themes/customization/products/add-to-cart/allow-pre-orders.

However, according to the instructions some recplacements have to be made:

  1. For non-sectioned themes:  'products.product.add_to_cart' | t  TO  'Pre-order' | json | remove: '"'
  2. For sectioned themes:  {% section 'product-template' %} TO {% section 'product-pre-order-template' %}

Well, that is easy enough but none of the text to be replaced is anywhere to be found. I am using Turbo 1.2.4 by https://outofthesandbox.com/.

I do not think I am the only one with the issue, @saraFerrao also had the same issue apparently:

https://ecommerce.shopify.com/c/ecommerce-design/t/allow-pre-orders-for-products-527830

Is there anything else I should check?

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you,

Wilmar

Hi, Wilmar!

My name is Ava, I’m one of Shopify’s Gurus and I’m here to help :)

The guide you linked there would usually only work on Shopify developed themes. The theme you are using is developed by Out of the Sandbox, so you would need to follow a different guide in order to allow for Pre-Orders. I've found a guide here that will allow you to do this!

Let me know what you think and if this guide does indeed work for you!

Thank you Ava for the quick reply. The issue with that approach is that it does not really automatically take a product / variation that is out of stock and put it in the pre-order collection. My customer would have to do so manually. Is there another alternative?

Thank you!

Hi, again, Wilmar!

So sorry for the delayed response here. I'm afraid this would fall outside of the scope of our support here, as the theme you are using was created by a third party developer.

I would recommend reaching out to your theme developers directly here https://help.outofthesandbox.com/hc/en-us/requests/new, as they will be able to direct you further!

Alternatively, you could wait for a response here from other forum members who may have gone through a similar experience. They could let you know how they dealt with this in their store.

Thanks for the response!

Hi @Jannik85,

Wilmar mentioned in their post that they are using the Turbo theme, which is a theme that has been created by a third party. This means Shopify have not created this theme, so we would not be able to support questions about how the theme has been coded. If you are using a third-party theme, it is best to reach out to your theme developers! If you could go to the admin and navigate to Online Store > Themes > Customise, you can access the theme Storefront Editor. After that, you can scroll to the bottom of the sidebar menu on the left to see who supports your theme. This is an example of a Shopify supported theme:

Your theme developer should be listed there, so you can search for their support page this way. Let me know how you get on!

Ava, Can you help with this code if we are using a Shopify theme?

I am using Debut and followed the above linked tutorial. It added a Pre-order button for me, but the Buy Now button remains on the page. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks

Shelley

Hi, @coziekids!

Is this the tutorial you are following? If you have followed every step exactly but are still seeing issues (like the Buy Now button still appearing), I would recommend reaching out to a Shopify Expert for some help on this. Our own Theme Support team would not be able to assist here, as this is an unsupported tutorial. Some tutorials we post do not look the exact same on every store, as things like theme version number, apps, previous coding changes, can affect the outcome. This tutorial is one of the unsupported guides, so it is best to check in with an Expert to make sure the coding changes you need are correctly added. You can post a job on the Shopify Experts Page and see what feedback and quotes you get. You can find where and how to do this here. Some examples would be TaskHusky.com or HeyCarson.com for smaller jobs!

Happy Selling!
