Assigning an order.tag automatically

Hi, I have a wholesale site and need to keep track of my customer's purchase order number for our records. I think the only way to keep track of it is to assign a order tag with their PO number. My question is: I need an input field in the cart (preferably in the checkout, but i've read somewhere that I cant change that) that when filled, will automatically be the order tag. Any ideas?

Order Note will do the job I think. You can edit it as well. We use these to create our own PO field for when we have to order the product to fill the order.

Thanx Standoutd, however, my customers also use the notes field for other instructions such as shipping info and other special instructions per order. I see that in the order objects there is no order.tag, however, in the API there is, I wonder if there is a way to manipulate the API to fill in the tags field.

You can have many cart notes beyond the one that's built in. In fact, we use that one for just internal notes. To get shipping instructions we use this code to make another note that shows on the order in admin, separate from the standard note:

<div id = "enter_note">
<label for="delivery_note">{{ settings.delivery_note_label }}</label><textarea name="attributes[delivery_note]" id="delivery_note" placeholder="{{ settings.delivery_note_placeholder }}" cols="20" rows="7" name="note" >{{ cart.attributes.delivery_note }}</textarea>
</div>

I don't know enough about the API. I do know though that some things we wants to do at order creation we could not because the order had to exist first and by the time it did we did not have the means to affect it. You might be able to make some app that could listen for new orders and do things at the point. Again, above my paygrade.

If you are using Order Notes, Line item attributes or Order Attributes to pass additional information (Like P.O numbers), you can use Order Tagger: https://apps.shopify.com/ordertagger to create a rule that reads these details and converts them into a tag. There's a how to guide here: https://ordertagger.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360015649680-Tag-an-order-based-on-its-line-item-p...

Hope that helps!
