Darkening Image with text overlay

I am using the debut theme and my image is being darkened or shaded when I add a text overlay or button. Can I change the settings or code so that my image stays at the original brightness even when adding a text overlay or button? Thanks in advance.

Apologies, I added some text so that it is darkened now. It is the first image after the header and you can see that it is shaded.

1. Go to Online Store->Theme->Edit code
2. Asset->/theme.scss.liquid->paste below code at the bottom of the file.

.hero__overlay::before {
background-color: transparent;
}
