I am currently designing an updated site from a pre-existing one with a new template/theme. I have run into a few speed bumps along the way and would like some help. I am trying to populate custom pages, and have went through and created new templates and coded sections. Unfortunately, I am told that I cannot implement the new template on the page until it is published, but cannot publish due to the pre-existing site being live and high traffic.
You will either need to wait until the lowest point possible in site traffic to publish. Or better yet, put up a notice giving your customers a few days' notice ahead of time that on XdateX at XtimeX the site will be down for XX minutes for maintenance (or a 'revamp' or however you would like to word it). Then put your site on password-protected mode at the announced time, publish test & fix your site with the updated theme, then take off the password protected mode.
