Sending out an SOS!
Coming from the complicated Magento platform, Shopify is just so stupid easy... so i know that I'm going to feel like a bashful goat after asking this.... but....
How in the WORLD do i create Product Add-Ons like the following Support Center that says it is supported. Click here to view the post.
If someone could pull their super hero powers together and advise me how to use this function, i will forever been in your debt..... until i need something else anyways. ;)
In this tutorial I show how to add a Monogram add-on for an additional price: http://the-new-standard-theme.myshopify.com/blogs/tutorials/6388020-using-line-item-properties-to-ad....
That tutorial was very helpful, but I still cant solve the issue I'm having. Maybe I need to add some more detail to help solve this problem.
We manufacture height adjustable tables. We want the consumer to have the option of purchasing their selected color base by itself, or have the options of adding a table top (of certain size & color) and/or accessories (keyboard trays, wheel kits, etc).
The kicker is, i am needing them to use their own SKU so when an order is place, it will automatically change the inventory in QuickBooks (using a groovy cool Shopify app). I very much need functionality like the Blog i referenced in my first post.
Any guidance or sign from above would be most helpful right now. :)
So, you need something like this: http://the-new-standard-theme.myshopify.com/products/engravable-flask-with-inventory-tracking-on-the...
The last variant of the product is the monogram, there's only one product in the above example but 2 variants are added to the cart, not one.
The add to cart form needs to submit more than one variant ID to the back-end. It needs to submit 2, or 3, or 4 — depending on the number of add-ons you have.
The product template used for the flask in my example: https://gist.github.com/3429052 What's important there is that the form fields that submit the variant IDs use the name attribute id, and not id.
ooooohhh..... I see!!!!!!
Here is what I've got so far, and i think the functionality is coming together nicely. The more and more i fiddle with the Shopify features, the more I'm satisfied.
And please ignore the carousel images.... lol, but i would love your feedback on the product functionality.
Could you also help me with the installation of your Shipping Calculator? For some reason, i think I'm missing step 1. Where do i download the jquery.cart.min.js and how do I upload it? Am i just making a txt file with the code and uploading it? I'm sorry, but I'm not good with js. And at the jquery website, i get so confused. Am i supposed to download something? lol.: http://wiki.shopify.com/Adding_a_shipping_rates_calculator_to_your_cart_page
I'm needing to get monograms working on my site and this thread has been a great help; http://the-new-standard-theme.myshopify.com/products/engravable-flask-with-inventory-tracking-on-the... is pretty much exactly what i need. I do have one question; When both items are added to the cart, the cart displays the monogram specific line items (letter and in my case - colour) on both variants.
Is there a way to stop the monogram specific line items from showing up on the main product as well?
My main concern is that it becomes a tad confusing for the user, especially if they delete the monogram variant from the cart leaving only the main product. With the monogram line items still visible they could very easily get the impression that the monogram is still included.
Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers.

Hi, the link doesn't seem to be working. Can you post it again?
