Hey Pierre,

Nick here from Shopify.

It's not clear what button you are referring to here, however I believe it's the call-to-action button likely on your Facebook page. The doc below will show you how to change that button:

How can I edit, pause or delete my Page's call-to-action promotion?

Hope this helps!

Sorry Nicholas, i'll try to be more clear.

On my store I installed the messenger app to help my customer to easily contact me via fb.

However the button language is in english and i'd like to change it.

Please see the screen copy (the button at the bottomright of the screen). Hope it's more understandable.

Pierre

Hello Jean and Pierre,

This is totally possible.

The language is provided by facebook and at the moment there is no easy way to change the language. You need to disable the provided message us button and recode it in your layout, by following this tutorial: https://help.shopify.com/themes/customization/social-media/adding-social-media-buttons/messenger

To change the language to french instead of using this:

<script>

  window.fbAsyncInit = function() {
    FB.init({
      appId: "APP_ID",
      xfbml: true,
      version: "v2.6"
    });

  };

  (function(d, s, id){
     var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];
     if (d.getElementById(id)) { return; }
     js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id;
     js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js";
     fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);
  }(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));

</script>

Use this, to set the language to french:

<script>

  window.fbAsyncInit = function() {
    FB.init({
      appId: "APP_ID",
      xfbml: true,
      version: "v2.6"
    });

  };

  (function(d, s, id){
     var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];
     if (d.getElementById(id)) { return; }
     js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id;
     js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/fr_FR/sdk.js"; // This controls the language
     fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);
  }(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));

</script>

Hi Kasimir,

As this patch is not supported by Shopify, I do not want to screw anything up so close to our opening. So I push my luck a bit more and ask you at which line number (see pic.) should I insert the code in my theme.liquid Layout (Supply). I understand your are not responsible for any mishap and that I can revert to En. should it go tits up.

Have a nice weekend

Hi Jean,

As explained in the tutorial, just paste it directly under body, so line line 65 would be sufficient. Please read the whole tutorial as you will need to change the APP_ID to the correct one for your store.

Hopefully this helps you.

Hi Kasimir,

Finally got a minute to patch my Layout theme and Snippet. No issue with the tutorial, editing App_ID and page_id was a breeze.

Close but no cigar though... Messenger us button's gone and not replaced by the french one!

Heads up before I swap back?

Hello Jean,

Please follow the tutorial: https://help.shopify.com/themes/customization/social-media/adding-social-media-buttons/messenger

You missing the part where you add the button which is basically "Copy the Message-Us Plugin code"
