Our store is wanting to add customer numbers and account managers attached to each customer's information/profile. After doing some research, I think the best way to do this would be to add some custom metafields in the bulk editing feature. (We are wanting this information to show up under the customer's profile on order pages, printed orders, and draft pages.. but we gotta start somewhere!)
I've discovered that Bulk Editing is now available on Shopify.
Custom Bulk Editing is possible. There are metafield apps to help create and manage these. There is an API page on creating these metafields. Metafields2 is the only app that mentions you can create custom metafields for customers.
I've tried the Metafields2 app for customers.. but nothing seemed to work or show up under the bulk editing for customers.. nothing.
The API page I couldn't find anything specifically on customers, so I shared it with a Shopify expert I know. He did some testing.. but nothing. He tried to use the Custom Fields app, but it said "no custom fields found" under the customer's profile". This article for Metafields2 didn't work either.
Anyone have anymore suggestions on how to tackle this customization?
The Customer Object is the ony object I've seen so far in Shopify that have a metafield propriety/method. The metafield takes same key value as custom metafields. See https://docs.shopify.com/api/customer look for metafield under Customer Properties.
You can do a test, get a customer and try to add directly a metafield trough that property. Retrive it and see if it sticks.
Using this you may be able to creat your own bulk edit app.
Please let me know if this works.

FYI, The Custom Field extension needs some setup before it will show metafields on the customer page (or any page for that matter). It does work.
