I seem to have two home pages with the same content but different URL's
https://www.agrisellex.co.uk/pages/home-page-content
Adjusting the SEO listing in the first is easy but where do I alter for the second and correct URL? Why do you get these two, surely one is preferable?
This really listing the HOME PAGE content page twice. To stay within Google Guidelines and not be penalised for having two pages with the same content how do you overcome this issue?
Those aren't the same pages if you look carefully.
The real home page
And as you will see when you navigate to pages/home-page-content it shows a breadcrumb that wou are elsewhere on the site.
I'd suggest you check your pages and theme homepage sections in theme customization.
Best wishes!
I saw there are minor differences BUT the bulk of the content is identical so Google (or other algorythms) would consider it to be duplication. You have not answered the query.
If I do a re-direct from one to the other - would Google now ignore that page?
You have not answered the query
And I suggested
you check your pages and theme homepage sections in theme customization.
because it seems you are re-using a rich text or custom content section on your home page and the home-page-content page - hence the duplicate.
As for Google, I am not an SEO specialist so can't tell or advise.
If that still does not answer your query, maybe someone from Shopify or other forum members have better answers.
Best wishes
OK thanks- the home page (www.agrisellex.co.uk) takes its leading from Online Store>Preferences where there is no option to add content - only the title and metadescription. I'm assuming it collects that content from Online Store>Pages> where the content may be written.
That section is where a second URL is generated and what is causing me concern.
I have asked SEO queries before without much luck and not sure Shopify pay much attention to it.
I see this was asked in 2015 without a response. https://ecommerce.shopify.com/c/ecommerce-design/t/duplicate-content-277653
You can remove the page from the sitemap and storefront search by adding the seo metafield.
https://help.shopify.com/en/api/guides/updating-seo-data
That metafield can be set using the bulk editor if you don't have an app that can do it.
You can take that further and use the existence of the metafield to also add in a no index meta tag. That would need a little bit of code, but nothing the forum members couldn't give you pointers on.
