I'm using the California theme and want to use a GIF as our home page. I followed the instructions here: https://help.shopify.com/themes/customization/colors-images-and-video/use-gifs and was able to get the GIF to load but now it is off center and removed all the text from the home page.

Here's the code that's relevant to the issue:

<div class="hero">
  <ul class="slides">
    {% for i in (1..6) %}
      {% if forloop.index == 1%}
      {{ 'MainGIF.gif' | asset_url | img_tag: slide_ }}
      {%else%}
      {% capture slide %}hero_slide_{{ i }}_enable{% endcapture %}
      {% capture slide_img %}hero_slide_{{ i }}.jpg{% endcapture %}
      {% capture slide_img_url %}{{ slide_img | asset_url }}{% endcapture %}
      {% endif %}
      {% capture slide_tagline %}hero_slide_{{ i }}_tagline{% endcapture %}
      {% capture slide_cta %}hero_slide_{{ i }}_cta{% endcapture %}
      {% capture slide_link %}hero_slide_{{ i }}_link{% endcapture %}
      {% capture slide_credits %}hero_slide_{{ i }}_credits{% endcapture %}
      {% if settings[slide] %}
        <li style="background-image: url('{{ slide_img_url }}');">
          <div class="layer"></div>
          <div class="content {{ settings.hero_alignment }}">
            <div class="inner">
              <div class="container">
