3D Maestro security - any other UK Shopify users out there?

Hello there, Just wanted to let you know that I've just posted this on the main support forum and wondered if any other UK Shopify users interested in 3D Maestro security might add their comments to my post: http://support.myshopify.com/discussions/questions/994-support-for-3d-maestro-any-further-developmen... Just hoping that Shopify feel this is ultimately an important enough issue to look into. At the minute it seems that the only way to take Maestro cards in the UK would be via a PayPal account and I was concerned by the PayPal outage yesterday (I'm due to launch my site in the next week or so). Thanks! Simon

I know the PayPal outage was annoying for all of their customers (us included) but it is important that we put this into perspective.

By my calculations, the 4 hours downtime would still give PayPal an overall uptime of 99.95% for the entire year.

Buses run late, planes get delayed, supermarkets have long queues and websites have unexpected downtime. I’m off to find something else to get annoyed about now :)

All fair points Matthew!

I guess I was just using this as an opportunity to raise the issue again with the Shopify team – it would be brilliant to get to a position where there’s at least a choice of gateways for UK users to consider.

Best,

I hope I misunderstood what Sage Pay told me today. But if I am correct they said SEPT 2009 It’s MANDATORY TO HAVE 3D Secure implemented on checkout. If you do not your bank will issue a FINE against you for not complying with the rule. I have an active store and to have SAGE PAY go down and not have any 3D Secure checkout I am out of BUSINESS. What can we do ????? Help

Hi Alex,

Things are looking a bit grim.

We had to forget about using SagePay for a while – and just use a PayPal Payments Pro account.

But, it looks like changes are being made there too:

https://www.paypal-business.co.uk/3Dsecure.asp

I need to read this again properly – I can’t tell yet if this means PayPal Payments Pro will no longer work with Shopify?

I did get some more or less encouraging feedback from Cody @ Shopify last week – but perhaps you could add a comment to this thread too:

Let’s hope this gets solved one way or the other.

Best,

Simon

I’m not sure why but the thread that I link to above now seems to have been ‘removed’ from the Shopify support site.

Not sure why… seemed perfectly valid to ask.

Yes something is up. But as I have been told this issue now must be dealt with. If not the lights go out on my company very quick

Simon, did you try to log in? It looks like your issue is ‘private’. You can toggle its visibility once you’re logged in if you started the discussion.

Hi Caroline,

As ever, THANK YOU!

For some reason the thread had become private – I’ve just toggled back to public.

Thanks again,

Simon

Have been updated that its all payment structures no just Maestro cards its ALL UK payments will need 3D. Any one taking UK credit cards must have 3D setup on all cards. So if Shopify doesn’t work for this I must shut down.
