Abandoned Cart Logic

We are developing a Charity Thrift Shop store with a very large number of unique items. Everything in the store has an inventory quantity of 1. 

We're wondering when a customer has an item in a cart and they abandon the cart, how long does it stay in the abandoned cart and when does it get returned to inventory?  Ideally we'd like that if the cart is abandoned, the items remain in the cart until a session timeout occurs and then the items are returned back to inventory so that another customer can see it.

@BobTennant you do not need to worry about it . it will remain in your inventory unless someone buys it.

Thank you.  So it only leaves the inventory when purchased?  That's pretty much exactly what we were hoping for.
