All things Shopify and commerce
Hello,
I want to add Express Shipping as an option. I want to add the express shipping at the checkout page, where customers will choose between standard and express but before the payment. I already have created 2 shipping profiles for free & express accordingly. By default, only the free option is shown.
I have found similar questions posted earlier but haven't found the answer yet. Can someone help, please?
Thank you

Hey @KellyVar,
If you're outside of Canada, the US, or Australia then you are correct that you can't use Shopify's live carrier options, unfortunately. My apologies for assuming you had access to Shopify shipping - hopefully it will be in your region soon!
In order to add the expedited shipping option like you want, you will have to use a third-party shipping app. Shopify doesn't currently support two flat rate options to appear at the same time for the same shipping profile, and since you don't have access to Shopify shipping, you can't do the free workaround for this.
If you are open to using an app, ours, Intuitive Shipping, can accommodate both the flat-rate expedited option and also live rate expedited options, it would be a personal preference which you go with. I usually recommend to our clients that they charge live rates for the expedited options, reason being, the cost can be very unpredictable for express options depending on where the order is going. An added benefit is that you can create custom shipping descriptions to appear under your displayed rates so that you can guide your customers into choosing the best option to get their order faster, and some of our users even decide to upcharge their expedited options to use shipping as a profit centre. By adding a note to your 'Standard' shipping that says "Your order will be dispatched in 3-4 days" and one to your Express option that says "Your order will be dispatched next business day", you're incentivizing your customers to choose the faster option that makes you more money, since the order will be sent sooner and the transit time is also faster. This time of year, especially because COVID has already caused shipping delays, customers are willing to pay more to get their order in time for Christmas.
Just a quick note that we do offer a 'Starter' plan for $14.99/mo and a free 14-day trial so you can take it for a test drive before committing.
However you decide to proceed, I hope you have a super successful holiday season!
Warm regards,
Sharon
Hey @KellyVar,
Shipping profiles let you assign different shipping costs based on product groups, so you don't need shipping profiles to accomplish this since you want this to apply to all products.
Instead, what you'll want to do is head to "manage rates", then "add rate" and select the live carrier you want to return rates from and select their "express" option Then, you'll click 'add rate' again and this time make it 'Standard' shipping, a flat rate. At checkout, both of these rates will appear together giving the customer the choice of standard shipping or to pay more for expedited.
One thing to note is that Shopify only sends one box size for for live rate calculations (this is your 'default' package size), so if you have a wide variety of product sizes, you may want to look into an app like Smart Boxing that calculates dimensional shipping rates.
Warm regards,
Sharon
Hello @Sharon-Reeds,
thank you for the feedback. According to my research and if I got it correctly since I am not located in the United States or Canada I am not qualified to select a live carrier. That's why I was trying to do it manually and charging flat rates for each option. Is there another way?
Best,
Kelly

Hello @Sharon-Reeds,
thank you for the detailed guided feedback. I will definitely have a look at the app.
Wishing a nice holiday season, too.
