Is there a way to show/ highlight products referenced in blog posts?

Alternatively how to add captions to images in a blog post?

Is there a way to add captions to images in a blog post, or to show the Alt text as image captions.

I am using ShowTime theme.

Thanks

Hello, @ll3.

Elias here with Shopify Support.

Thanks for getting in touch! Great question by the way.

Typically, stores will hyperlink the image in the blog to a product URL. This allows the image to redirect your customers to the specified page, and you can also choose to direct your customers to a new window or open in the existing window. Simply click the image and then click the hyperlink icon as shown in my screenshots below.

To add a caption, you can add the text below the image and adjust the size and colour of the text. Adjusting the formatting will change the size of the text, as seen in the screenshot I am using “Heading 6”. It should look something like this:

Alternatively, you can also explore pulling the ‘ALT text’ for captions through custom coding. While this is possible, it’s not something that our Theme Support is able to support for third-party themes. If you have limited knowledge with coding, you can check with your theme developers or hire a Shopify Expert to help you with this.

I hope this provides some solutions for you to look into. Keep me posted on how it goes! -Elias

Elias, thanks for taking the time to provide a solution. I've run into a couple of problems. I've tried to reduce font size for an image caption but my Heading 6 is capitalised. I'm not keen on using ALT text for captions. It can't be this difficult, right?

Hey, @TGC.

Thank you for reaching out in this thread. I understand you’re running into a problem with reducing font size for an image caption but your Heading 6 is capitalized. This might be caused by your theme, as there could be coding that is automatically capitalizing the headings. That said, have you tried the other levels of the headings (1-6)?

Since the capitalization might be coded into the theme, this may apply to every level of the headings so you might need to look into changing the coding. If you’re using a Shopify theme, our Theme Support can take a look at adjusting the coding for you - I’ll be happy to forward this request. If you’re using a third-party theme, the scope of our Theme Support is limited as we’re not familiar with third-party coding. For this reason, I recommend reaching out to the theme developers to see if they can help you adjust the coding and remove the capitalization. Feel free to keep me posted on this!
