Hi Marco,

One Shopify store can have multiple domains and you can force all other domains to redirect to a main one, if that is what you want.

Check out this post from last summer: https://ecommerce.shopify.com/c/shopify-discussion/t/multiple-domains-for-one-shopify-hosted-account...

It gets into some of the SEO questions you have.

Hi Ryan,

at the moment, the extention I want to use primary has no "content". I'm not that familiar with domains, but will this change in adding this domain and make it primary do all the 301-redirects automatically?

Lets say I have a blog-post "paleotogo.at/blogs/main-dishes/21097501-fried-rice".

Will it automatically redirect to "paleotogo.org/blogs/main-dishes/21097501-fried-rice"?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Kind regards

Marco

Hi Marco,

Yes this should work fine.

  1. Make sure both your domains (paleotogo.at and paleotogo.org) have their A Records pointed to 23.227.38.32. What this does is when a browser tries to go to either domain the DNS resolution system will point them to Shopify's servers. Details on how to do this are here: https://docs.shopify.com/manual/settings/domains/third-party-domains/general-instructions#edit-a-rec...
  2. For your site you will want both paleotogo.at and paleotogo.org to be listed under Manage Domains in your Shopify admin. What this does is when a request hits Shopify's servers at 23.227.38.32, Shopify will know that these domains belong to your shop and thus will serve your shop back to the browser.
  3. The last step is to make paleotogo.org  your primary domain and check the box that says Redirect all traffic to this domain. (see attached) When this is checked Shopify will know to redirect browsers to paleotogo.org when it receives requests from paleotogo.at. When this happens Shopify will keep the url path in tact.

Let us know if you run into any issues.

Hi Marco,

I assume you are trying to do this: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/83106?hl=en

You probably need to verfiy rhat you have permission for the other property first and that it is accoicated with your Google account.

Hi Ryan,

thanks. It works now. It wasn't enough to just verify in the address change page. I also had to add the new url on the dashboard.

Thank you!

Marco
