We launched with Shopify about 3 months ago. We are now needing to make changes to some of our products, specifically the product vendor and product type. When we change those fields on a product and rerun our sales reports the changes are not reflected. Based on what I have read it looks like it is not possible to change product attributes and have them update previous orders. Is is not possible to update certain product attributes to reclassify previous orders? Again, I'm not trying to change the order just attributes of the product so our sales reports are totaled differently.
Thanks for any help.
We came across the same issue today. We updated the product type field for a number of products.
However, the "Sales by product" report still shows the old product type value.
The order itself (when you go to any order and append .json to the URL, you will see it) has its own product type value, which is not updated when the actual product type in the product changes.
We think that this is the cause of the issue.
It is really confusing for merchants and is hopefully a known bug.

I believe our app Better Reports can help! In our reports, the 'product type' always shows the current product type associated with the product, not the product type at the time of the sale. For 'Product vendor', you can choose to show the vendor at the time of sale or the current vendor associated with the product. By default, our reports show the current 'product type' and 'vendor' in reports, so any changes will automatically be reflected in the Sales by product type and Sales by vendor reports.
In addition to building custom reports to meet your specific needs, you'll have access to 60+ built-in reports that cover many common use cases for merchants and our reports can be scheduled to send to your email or Google Drive at set frequencies - like after the close of every day.
I encourage you to install Better Reports and start your free 14-day trial, and I'll be happy to set this up for you.
Let me know how you go and feel free to reach out if you have any further questions.
Hello @3oaker ,

If you are still looking for a solution then Report Pundit can fetch data for the changes that are made to the vendor and product name, tags, type, etc in the sales level reports.

With our Advanced Reports application you can build a report based on actual product or vendor name.
Also, it is possible to easily switch into the "historical" values that products or vendors have at the moment of order placement.
Just use Vendor from the Products table to get the actual value, or Vendor from the Order Items table to get "historical" values.
The same with the product names - just use "Product Name" from the Order Items table to get historical values, or Name from the Products table to get actual value.
Please feel free to contact me via firstname.lastname@example.org if you have additional questions.
