Clickable Tags

Hi guys, This is my first post, as I have recently created a shop of my own. Hope to find some help around here from all you experts. My first question is regarding a feature I would like included in my shop. Right now, it's possible to specify the product vendor and product type for a given product, and this information is shown in the product page as a clickable search tag with a label before. For instance: Product Vendor: C3PO Technologies Product Type: Robot I would like to have other clickable search tags with labels, like Country, Region and Variety. This is of upmost importance to my shop, as I deal with wines and regional products. Is it possible for me to change the shop so that it includes these other tags? I know a bit about coding. Can't be done? Thank you so much. Jose

when you enter a product, say wine, put it in the “wine” collection, create tags, say, “bordeaux” “France” “red”, and then this on your collection template

<ul id="tags">
{% for tag in collection.all_tags %}
<li><a href="/collections/{{collection.handle}}/{{tag}}">
{{ tag | highlight_active_tag }}</a></li>
{% endfor %}
</ul>

This will make the tags appear on your collection page. If you want them on every page in the menu, do a search here or look at some templates in vision. lots of examples.

Thanks Cristina.

This might be a good solution, but I think it doesn’t do exactly what I asked.

It appears not to show any labeling before the tags…

Anyway, I’ll give it a try.

Thanks again

josé – sorry, i didn’t read your question carefully enough.

the tags can’t be categorized and there are no custom fields which would allow you to create what already exists for product vendor and product type. This being said, if you don’t need the “product vendor” info on your page, you can hijack it for other purposes – for example country – and instead of labelling it “product vendor” in your template, you label it “country”. Nothing says you can ONLY use that field for product vendor. So with that you could create smart “country” collections (or whatever). One down.

As for the other labels you want, you can make manual (standard) collections for region and variety, and for each product you upload, add it to its relevant collection.

With respect to the labeling – well, you have to play around with the code. Those of us who have been here from the start have spent a lot of time testing and trying the variables, the html, and the templates and twisting them into all kinds of configurations. You’re not going to find anything that exactly fits your specifications right out of the box, but it’s a very flexible system, so you should be able to easily get to where you want.

Thank you so much for your help Cristina.

I suspected that the tags couldn’t be categorized.

Oh well, I guess I’ll have to find a way to deal with them.

Thanks for the links. I’ll look into them later.
