Creating a different website for mobile and desktop

Im relatively new to Shopify and im having difficulty creating a mobile website that looks good on desktop as well, is there any way to create a separate designed website for both of them? or to be able to lock the mobile one while I edit the dekstop view ?

or do I have to sacrifice one for the other?

Would be greatly appreciated if someone can let me know on this!
