I'm looking to have a pretty simple "Store" on my Shopify site selling apparel. I may have 10 shirts, hats, etc. and it may grow to 20, etc. I can do this no problem.
However, I am also wanting to build separate "Custom Stores" outside the actual "Store" on my site. These stores would be for specific groups that would simply go to the link with they could purchase their groups apparel only. Their store may run for a couple weeks then I would shut it down. I may even have multiple custom stores going at once. The "Custom Stores" would hopefully have either their own password to enter or their own web address..
Is this possible in Shopify? I am currently running a test page to see if I can do it before I purchase a monthly plan.
Three options come to mind. Your primary issue will be keeping your global inventory in sync.
1) Create X number of shopify stores ( on whatever plan, lets say basic ). When an order comes in, reduce inventory from the other stores. This is quick in terms of dev/design as you can clone theme and import products in native formats to shopify.
2) Similar to above, but use something like Stitch for centralized inventory publishing to your Shopify Channels. ( each channel is a unique store instance ). This will keep global inventory in sync automatically. And each store could be branded individually.
3) Have your main shopify store, and use the shopify 'Buy Button' https://www.shopify.com/buy-button to embed your products on any microsite / other site you want ( wordpress, jekyll, or probably easiest - Squarespace https://www.shopify.com/buy-button/squarespace )
Option 3 will be the least cost x labor intensive. At scale, option 2 would be best. Option 1 makes sense at smaller scales if you stay on top of inventory and want basically the same site designs.
We've built an app called Replay that will let you copy (and update) the data from one store to another in order to clone them. You can install it at https://apps.shopify.com/store-copy
Replay will copy / update your products, themes, collections, pages and blogs / blog posts.
It's based on the same technology as our Shopify backup app, Rewind.
