Domain Shows Old Website On My Server

I connected my third party domain and had my provider change the following as instructed on your help page:

  • you want your root domain (your A record) to point to Shopify's IP address, which is 23.227.38.32
  • you want your subdomains (your CNAME records) to point to shops.myshopify.com.

attached are screen shots of the dns settings for my domain.

is there something wrong?

when i go to my website it still shows my old website that is on my third parties server and not the shopify website.

Hey!

Aria here, I'm on the Social Care team at Shopify.

I took a look at digwebinterface.com. It's a tool that can be used to determine where a domain is currently pointing. For some reason, you appear to have an extra A Record:

I would recommend you log in to your domain account and delete the one on the bottom: 216.177.137.87. Make sure you keep the one that's pointing to Shopify's IP address which is 23.227.38.32. Your CNAME is also incorrectly pointed:

It needs to be pointed at shops.myshopify.com.

If there is a section in the admin for your old website for connecting your domain, make sure it is deleted from there.

It could be worth contacting your domain provider if you're having difficulty editing the DNS settings.

Let me know how you get on.

I'm glad you got it sorted out. I can see the domain is now pointing at your Shopify store.

Your website is looking good so far. I would maybe make the logo in your header a bit bigger.

I'd love to see a creative About Us page telling your story. An ongoing blog would be a great extension of that. It can help bring visitors back to your store again and again. It can also help with your SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Google loves unique content.

Make sure you also include a Contact Us page. The easier it is for a customer to get their questions answered, the higher the chance they will place an order. For this reason, I'd also install the Facebook Messenger Channel.

Where do the items ship from? Where do they ship to? How long will it take? How much does it cost? A shipping information page is important, or you could include all of that in a FAQ page.

Let me know how you get on.

Hey, @kmountford!

I apologize for the delay in response. I hope you got it sorted out by now but if not, please tell me which domain you're referring to? There are a few on there.

Thank you!

Hi Aria,

I seem to be having the same issue as the above and was wondering if you could please help :)

My shopify is - http://rosslyn-coffee.myshopify.com and my domain is www.rosslyncoffee.com

When you click on either it takes me back to my old re-direct for the old e-commerce site I was using.

Not sure why it's not working?

Thanks in advance Aria.

Cheers,

Hey, @MathewRussell!

I realise you posted this a few days ago, I apologize for the delay.

It looks like you got it sorted out. I'm guessing it just took a while for your domain setup to complete. For future reference, any domain change can take up to 24 hours to complete, it's not always instant. I'm glad it's working for you now.

Let me know if you need anything else.
