Explain Vendor Fields to me

I sell vintage items, many of which have no brand, and of course I am not buying from some major supplier like Sony or something.

What is the purpose of the vendor field?

What is the best thing to fill in for a seller like me?

Where does it show up? I've seen some posts saying it screwed up their tweets by showing up there.

Hi, Laura!

The vendors field is a field for merchants who would like to have the ability to view their products by vendor. One might instead add in the manufacturer or wholesaler depending on how you’d like to organize your products. Read more about your product organization here.

This can come in handy when you’re looking to filter products in your admin in various ways. Some merchants like to be able to find their products using different variables using filters such as vendor, inventory, tags, and others, as explained here. If you find this field serves no purpose for your business it’s certainly not necessary to fill out. I see many merchants who decide not to use it, but many who do as well.

You can also show, or not show, the vendors on product pages for customers to see. By default, vendors are turned off from your product pages. To access this feature go to Online Store> Themes> Customize. Once there, click on the dropdown at the top left of your screen to access the product page editor, like this (https://screenshot.click/16_17-17-nhfhj-6fxym.png) and this (https://screenshot.click/16_26-26-67i17-oc0ae.png).

I hope this helps!
