Form fields (Debut)

Hi @Nick

Thanks for responding to the query about form fields!

We would like to add a form field to the blog post comments area, in order to ask whether ppl are 13 or over. Already done this for the customer registration form and the newsletter subscription form. This is because kids may be using the website. When we add such a field to the comments, however, we are not able to see people's input from our end. Is there a quick fix? Thank you.

Hi @TalkTogetherLon,

Nick here from Shopify.

There are a couple of ways you could go about this. The first one which springs to my mind is to use an app from the Shopify App Store. There are a few different age verification apps that could be worth looking into which you can see below. They are all set up differently and might not have the form feature which you mentioned and some may have a pop up instead, do you feel like this could work or does it need to be a form fill out specifically?

If none of the apps seems to be able to do what you need, your best bet would be to have something custom made by a Shopify Expert. This will more than likely have a higher upfront cost but it would be created and tailored specifically for your store with your exact needs. It's definitely worth reaching out to some Shopify Experts to see what the cost might be as well as researching some of the apps above/in the app store. You can see the Shopify Expert directory for custom features or code here

All the best, Nick

Thank you for your message, Nick.

As a non-profit we are not a fan of apps - for two reasons: budget restrictions and complications caused by app coding.

There are a few apps that we are using and we could recommend them as trouble free and good, but in general we are hesitant about trying or using new apps unless someone we know or trust will guarantee 100% that they do what they claim and won't create issues.

Regarding adding a simple code to the comments sections of blogs - we can do that. What we need help with is seeing what the comment writer inputs to the field we had added from our admin end.

All the best!

PS We'd really appreciate it if the amount of selling on this community forum was toned down a little bit - it really doesn't feel very nice or 'communal'. IMHO when people are ready, they would reach out and purchase or commission what they need, without being pushed constantly.
