Google Analytics integration not working

I have triued to integrate Google Analystics into my store but I have no evidence that it's working. To configure I visited...

Sales Channels -> Online Store -> Preferences

and then entered my tracking code from my analytics account (the account had been around for a while and works just fine on my main web site). When I save the tracking code I see my UA--- number listed as I would expect.

Yet if I go to the Google Analytics site I see no record of any activity on my shopify store. Google Tag Manager seems to find the analytics code on my Shopify pages.

By the way, my store uses the form https://store,<domain>.com - not sure of that's a factor here.

Any suggestions on how I can troubleshoot this?

I did fing a YouTube video from a third party that suggested NOT to use the UI I mentioned above and instead to edit a .liquid file in my theme. He didn't say why this was preferred though. Any particular reason the UI in the path above is not the right way to do this?

Thanks.

Hi Mark,

Don't edit your liquid theme. It's unnecessary, and unless you're an advanced coder, you'll only create more headaches for yourself in getting analytics to work. It also means you miss any updates in Shopify's integration with G Analytics.

There are some things you need to do inside analytics like referral exclusions.

For the bare minimum to get yours working, follow steps 2 and 3: https://www.digitaldarts.com.au/google-analytics-and-shopify-for-splendid-data

I also suggest you change your Shopify settings so yourstore.myshopify.com redirects to your domain. It doesn't affect your analytics IF you have the myshopify.com domain in your analytics referral exclusion list, but it's just better for your business and SEO to have a single, custom domain.

Hi Mark,

Britton here with the Shopify support team.

You are definitely correct that the regular Google Analytics snippet should get added to your site via the path online store > preferences in the designated box. Just remember that the main code snippet should go in the aforementioned place, not in the custom javascript section.

If you have set it up that way then it should be working fine! It's hard to troubleshoot exactly why without looking at your store though, so I am going to reach out to you via email to help you get it fixed.

I'm having a very similar problem.  I've followed the guide here: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/reports-and-analytics/google-analytics/google-analytics-setup#ste...

Shopify correctly grabs my Google Analytics ID (UA-...).  So far so good.  Turned on Ecommerce tracking for both Shopify and Google Analytics (as well as Enhanced Ecommerce).

Here's my problem:  When I go to Google Analytics and look at real-time data, it successfully tracks active users (tested with my own browser).  However, everything else (Behavior, etc) all shows zero page views.  I've given the setup a couple of days to initialize, but still nothing.

Also concerning - when I look at my theme.liquid code I see no sign of any gtag.js, or any of the other js files listed on the above linked tutorial (ga.js, dc.js, analytics.js).

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

Heya!

Am also facing similar issues. I believe this is because the store has password turned on. But, still am getting pageviews registered but not realtime metrics.
