All things Shopify and commerce
Hello Everyone,
I have been trying for days now to connect my Shopify store to my Google Merchant account. I have pasted the tracking ID from my Google Analytics account in the appropriate spot and checked the enhance check box. but when I enter the URL into my Google Merchant account and when I go to use the Google analytics to verify the URL I keep getting the same error;
"The Google Analytics tracking code on your site looks malformed."
Has anyone out there been successful in linking Google Merchant account to their store. If so, any tips you have would be helpful. I have followed over a dozen different ways I found on the Internet and ALL end up with the same error.
There has to be a step I am missing, but I just can't see it.
Thanks

Thank you to everyone who responded. My merchant account has been approved and it was a lot simpler that I thought. The way they worded their email, I thought they were talking about putting the information right in the code of the website. It turns out all I needed to do was to add a new section in the footer and write in the information in the 'Text' box. I feel silly that it was so simple and I made it sound so explicit.
Here is a screenshot of my footer, if anyone else is having trouble getting approved just make sure the following is in the footer;
I hope this helps the next person who is having issues getting their merchant account going.
@CADman69 might be best to show us a screenshot where you have added your analytics id in Shopify (so we can see if you've done something wrong there) and your site URL so we can check if the tag is working etc. That way we might be able to work out what's wrong.
Also - Is your Google Analytics working i.e. are you seeing any data for your site in there?
@JonWright Here is a screen shot for the analytics ID entered in Shopify.
My URL for the site is https://motorcycle-merch-99.com. I am sure it works because that is one thing I tested during this whole thing. How I tested was to have the analytics open when I opened the website and yes it did recognize the a visitor to the site.
Here is a screen shot of my website and analytics side by side.
Hi - as Emmanuel has said you could just use another method to authenticate. However, I think there is a problem with your tag which may screw up your GA data as well.
When I use this tool https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/tag-assistant-for-convers/llpfnmnallbompdmklfkcibfpcfpncdd (which is a Chrome extension from Google that allows you to test your tags) it shows me errors on your site.
As to why is another issue, my first guess is an app you've installed that is causing a conflict but it's going to be difficult to diagnose.
I would install a clean version of your theme and preview it (don't send it live!!) and then run same tool on that 'demo' site. If you get clean results when you do that, then you know that's the problem.
Thanks gentlemen,
I think for now I am just going to walk away from the merchant account. I tried using the google tag to verify. They wanted me to create an account, which I did, then they wanted me to paste some code snippets inside the main code for the website. I was not going to do that as I have ZERO knowledge of HTML or CSS, plus I looked at the code (under the actions button, edit code) and I wouldn't even know which one is the main.
This all being said, I do appreciate your feedback. Maybe once I get more comfortable with this, I will re-visit it.
Hello everyone,
After several days of trying, I was able to link my merchant account. But at this time, they have suspended my account. They did send an email on how I can make my site approvable but it seems to be beyond my capabilities. I was wondering if anyone could help me understand exactly what the are requesting. This is the email they sent me;
Just looking for someone who may have received a similar email and was able to rectify their account.
I should have been more specific in my above post. My Merchant account was suspended, not my Shopify account, in case that makes a difference on any replies.
There could be many reasons, I recommend having a look at the following policies:

The most common issues are:
You can ask Google for specific examples of policy violation. To do so ask here and check the box, I need more info : https://support.google.com/merchants/contact/suspended
Hope this helps.

If the verification and claiming of your website fails, simply use an alternative method such as meta tag.
Go to Google Merchant Center and choose a different method.
