I want to create a promotional (free product) that will only be advertised and I do not want to have it be searchable on our website for this reason. This product will be live, but will not be in any collections so it will appear as if the product is not on the site, but since it will be a live product, it will be serachable in the seach bar. Is there any way that I can disable a product showing up in the search results?
You can definitely do this! What you would want to do is change the visibility on the product. You can do this by following this guide.
If you want the product still to be buyable but not appear on the site anywhere(including the search), you would need to use an app like Locksmith. You can grab this right here.
Hope this helps!
I would suggest adding a metafield (https://help.shopify.com/api/tutorials/hide-from-search-engines-and-sitemaps) to the product that removes it from the sitemap and search, and then create a special product template for that product that removes the Add to Cart functionality.
Hi, just use a tag and filter it so it doesn't show a product with that tag. No need for apps etc.
If you need help with that, drop us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org
Yes, you can. But to keep the pagination right on your search results you really need to prevent the product from being in the search results, not just hiding it. I did it on my site by including a tag "options" for every product I didn't want included .... here's my blog post on it.
Thanks Shelley, your solution works great! Except, my site still shows the "hidden" text within the search bar box after you search for something. How can I remove that as well?
