Hi,

For stores that sell snacks and food, it is essencial to manage inventory according to the expiry date of products. Can Shopify add this feature in product management? Just like adding varients, is it possible to add the inventory tracking by the expiry date? For example, I have 1 cake expire in 10 days, and another cake expire in 20 days. So I add 1 cake into my inventory and set the expiry date to be 10 days later. After 10 days, the system will automatically subtract the inventory left by 1 if the first cake is not purchased by anyone. But if someone bought the first cake, the inventory will shows 1 cake left and the expiry date is 20 days later.

Sorry for my poor English. Please contact me if there is a solution or alternative method to achieve it.

No answers yet. Guess Shopify Plus is the only solution here.

We're working with Shopify Plus. But from my research I still don't see how we would incorporate expiry dates.  Were you told this was possible through Shopify Plus?

Also, can you tell me what other solution you ended up putting in place to solve this issue?

Well, I don't quite know how Shopify Plus works on this issue. Are they helping you adding fields in database for products? Such as expiry dates. But even though this field is added, there are a lot of related issues need to be concerned as well, such as the discount on products approaching the expiry dates, auto hide products that expired, etc. Here is another possible solution, but it requires IT specialist s to do it. Rent a server outside shopify, build a database to manage your products, and use api to link the databases together. Just an idea here, I am not a tech guy, so I can't tell you the details.

You'll want to make use of the Shopify API and build an app that will automatically remove inventory based on (for example) a metafield date value on the variant / product. This has nothing to do with Shopify Plus as all accounts have access to the API.

If you're not interested in building an app it would also be possible to make theme edits that would visually hide the expired variants from the site. This is not as reliable however since Shopify caches content so dates / times are never accurate.

@sarah - If you are working with a Plus merchant you might want to (or get the merchant to) contact their Shopify Account Manager for advice.

Hi All,

We've been looking at this feature as part of our development and plan to release a food as well as a non-food version of  The Prosperous Shop. Our app helps you manage sales and inventory across channels and we send you regular alerts that show which products are hot, which are not, and what the best action to take is.

If anyone would like to sign up to our beta for long-term free use and talk to us as we develop this feature for you that would be great.

If you click on our websiite link and  come through on the 'contact us'  page we can take it from there.

We're committed to your success and to making your lives a bit easier!

Regards,

Karen

Ah. That's a shame. But thanks for letting me know.
Are there any apps that are similar to this out there?
