Lower my Shopify monthly costs or stop spamming me with sales calls and emails please

When I signed up for Shopify I had no idea I would be constantly bombarded by spam emails and cold calls from shopify "partners" all eager to sell me marketing schemes and scams that I want no part of.  According to Shopify, this is not against their TOS with partners, aka they tacitly allow this kind of spamming and phone harrassment.

Generally speaking when you sign up for something where you are then going to be marketed to relentlessly, you do so knowing it in advance and you tolerate it because the service you're signing up for is free.

Shopify appears to be having their cake and eating it too:  I pay a monthly fee to shopify, I pay a percentage of all credit card  transactions to shopify and shopify ALSO has "partners" who relentlessly advertise to me and harrass me via phone and email.  And none of this touches on the fact that Shopify also intentionally omits basic functionality from their platform so they can then then sell it to me under the guise of fee-based "apps".

Getting really tired of all this, is there a solution other than moving to a new ecommerce platform?

In no way would Shopify support partners/experts spamming or harrassing merchants. If you think someone is spamming/harassing you - please report it to the support team. Just be sure to gather up some info to support the case.

Now if they are not a partner / expert there's little Shopify can do but you may be able to report them to your regional anti-spam organisation - whatever that might be.

I still get some spam emails as well - both for my active and (public) demo Shopify stores, and other stores on different platforms I've worked with in previous roles. Mine are not to the level of harrasing however so hearing that yours are is concerning.

I agree, Shopify doesn't support it per se.  But they do allow it.  I know this because Shopify told me as much.  They have no provision in their TOS with "partners" preventing them from cold calling or sending spam emails.

Furthermore, Shopify also has no method or mechanism to actively prevent "partners" from engaging in these activities nor do they provide any method for reporting spammers and marketing calls other than the black hole of "email customer support".

I understand that non-shopify related marketers are beyond the purvue of shopify to deal with.  But I receive callsevery week from people stating "We're a shopify partner".  That indicates these are people that shopify is aware of and engaged with.

Shopify allows these things to happen.  That's not to say they support it, but they absolutely do allow it.  I don't appreciate paying to be marketed to.

I will start noting the numbers, email addresses and business names of the "partners" who are contacting me and I will report them to shopify just as regularly as they contact me.  It appears that's all I can do.

That's a pretty bold assumption. My own assumption would be they are calling themselves that because it sounds better. I've seen a few dodgy people post here using the same trick and they've certainly not been partners. I'm quick to remove that sort of spam from here as well.

Gathering info is a good start. Might not seem like much but it's something the team would take seriously - despite what your interaction with support may have been so far. If it turns out those that are hassling you are true partners/experts their partner managers can reach out to them directly.

Hope things improve for you naturally in good time.

This is happening to me too. Is there anyway to block myself from the email lists that Shopify is selling my email to? I agree that if you pay for a service you shouldn't be getting spammed with offers.

This social problem has very little to do with shopify.

If your an ecommerce store, or even just an internet property,  once an emails has ever been put anywhere publicly in relation to a store you will get b2b spam.

Same applies to a phone number and doubly so if there's a personal name to go with it.

Your only recourse for email is to let your spam filters try and do the job or make different email accounts to increase the indirection.

Same for a phone number but a virtual assistant can be simpler if you have high call volume in the first place.
