Sales Tax on Specific Products

I noticed that Shopify is not charging sales tax to certain orders.

I have sold the exact same item to the exact same state via Etsy.....and they charged sales tax.

On certain products, the checkbox for "Charge tax on this item"  isn't even there.

Can you please help.

Thanks

This is an accepted solution.

Hello @barndoll

Etsy is a marketplace, and therefore Etsy is the seller of record for all transactions complete on their site. Since Etsy has multiple nexuses in nearly all states and/or surpasses the sales threshold in multiple states for out-of-state sales tax collection/remittance, they charge sales tax on pretty much all transactions.

On Shopify, Your Business is the seller of record, and sales tax is charged according to which states you are registered to collect and remit sales tax (and have set up in your tax settings in admin).

Thank You. That makes perfect sense. I appreciate your response!
