Shopify Abandon Cart not displaying correctly

Since the switch to the new abandoned cart system, staff have been complaining that abandoned cart messages are showing up as blank. We are still able to fill out the custom message, but we cant send a full preset email anymore, was there a switch with how abandoned cart works for different plans as well?
Here's our abandoned cart email code:

{% capture email_title %} Your shopping cart is waiting for you {% endcapture %}
{% capture email_body %}
{% if billing_address.first_name %}Hi {{ billing_address.first_name }}, w{% else %}
W{% endif %}e noticed there {% if item_count == 1 %}was an item{% else %}were some items{% endif %} left in your shopping cart.
If you're ready to complete your order, your cart is waiting for your return.
{% endcapture %}

Hi Gina,

Britton here with the Shopify support team.

You should still be able to change around the prefilled message that gets sent out with Abandoned cart emails! In your example above you would want to edit this code:

{% if billing_address.first_name %}Hi {{ billing_address.first_name }}, w{% else %}
W{% endif %}e noticed there {% if item_count == 1 %}was an item{% else %}were some items{% endif %} left in your shopping cart.
If you're ready to complete your order, your cart is waiting for your return.

That is what the template is currently using to fill the body of them email when no custom message is specified. That being said, the code you are showing shouldn't be ouputting blank abandoned cart emails. I'm going to reach out to you directly to help you get that resolved!
