Hello I would like to build an ecommerce store. I have built couple of them so far but based on other framework than shopify. My question is how can I achieve URL structure like this:
What are the possibilities with URLs in Shopify?
/products for Products
for Collections of products.
That should be sufficient. You do not need to make URLs as with old-fashioned e-commerce systems.
You're free to spend most of your valuable time on more important things like finding and selling products people actually want to buy.
URLs you providing are not SEO friendly those URLs are missing so much information, buy using that structure I combining with other rules I achieved very efficient SEO.
If somebody is looking in google for dresser brand I guarantee you it wont show up my site, because I would style brand pages category pages and item pages with own SEO rules + URLs.
so shopify cannot provide any functionality regarding those URLs? And styling own brand pages, category pages etc?
Take 2 minutes to setup your test shop and you'll see that you are able to setup perfect URLs for your products. In my opinion you can make excellent URL's that describe your products. Since I see Shopify stores making millions, your theory on SEO is poof, bang, empty balloon.
I setup the store only what it can do is this:
Each is a page with info and landing pages, plus proper SEO optimizing.
is just 1 page with item nothing else...
Can I create those above?
As I mentioned, you should play with Shopify. The Navigation system is well documented, and provides for plenty of options.
What you think you need and what you actually need are two different things. Only you can reconcile that.
Best of luck!
Hey @HunkyBill, stop commenting and wasting people's time. Forums are for people that want to HELP or GET HELP. It's not for negative trolls.
There are legitimate reasons a merchant or blog publisher would want the ability to add another folder level similar a vanity URL. Instead of being a negative troll, realize that there might be legitimate reasons. Such as this one below that our client needs/wants:
Forced URLs for Shopify pages: http://lovesurf.com/pages/chelsea-cruz
We would want to be able to brand these URL like this for many reasons including memorability and social media and promotional purposes:
Or even /pages/athletes/chelsea-cruz would be sufficient. This would be a nice to have feature in an upcoming release.
Other than using URL re-directs, is there a solution to this problem?
Case in point: I have a vendor that requires that I have specific landing pages for their products (www.myurl.com/brandx) and having "/Collections/brandx" or "/Pages/brandx" is not acceptable to them. A URL re-direct isn't really a legit solution for this. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
I'd like a more flexible page structure as well (although I'm curious how big the SEO value still is in the post-Hummingbird era). While you can't quite do what you want, you can still do this:
Does that give you what you're looking for?
Seriously?, you cant customise the url structure?
We sell clothes, books, toiletries etc and would need urls like:
Please tell me that is not the case!?
