I have a domain registered to 123-reg.co.uk that I want to point to my shopify store.

Problem is that if I use the CNAME and 301 route I will lose use of my domain name's email because any mx records will be disabled by 123-reg.

Does anybody know of an alternate method that works with 123-reg?

Hello,

I work here at 123-reg.

If you have email with ourselves and wish to link to a hosting using a CNAME we would recommend the following:

Set up a CNAME for your the www sub domain name of your domain (so www.yourdomain.com).

Create an A record for the blank record (so for yourdomain.com).  To set the A record you will need to ask your hosting provider to supply you with the IP address for your hosting.  Most will do this without a problem.  I can't advise you what yours would be for Shopify but I am sure someone here could help you.

Using an A record for the blank domain will keep your email working as it is only blank CNAMES which will effect it.

Once you have got the IP address you may find the below guides helpful. If I can be of any further help please do let me know.

Hello,

I work here at 123-reg.

To have your email work with 123-reg and your site hosted with Shopify you can use a CNAME record for the www subdomain (www.yourdomain.com) however for your blank domain (yourdomain.com) you will need to use another type of record, as a blank record as a CNAME will overwrite all other blank records, including the MX records which control your email.

The solution for this is to use the CNAME record for the www subdomain and to forward your blank domain name to an IP address using an A record.  I cannot advise you of the IP address of your hosting, but I am sure someone here at Shopify could help you with that.

Once you have the IP address you can use the the guides below to help you set the CNAME and A record up.  This will get your website displaying and keep your email working.

For the www record: http://www.123-reg.co.uk/support/answers/Domains/Domain-Configuration/how-do-i-set-up-a-cname-record...

If I can be of any further help please do let me know.
