I'm trying to set this up but don't seem to be able because of errors due to Discus embed.js in blog posts.

I can't see were or how to fix this...

Help please!

Trevor - You can try editing article.liquid and changing this line:

dsq.src = 'http://' + disqus_shortname + '.disqus.com/embed.js';

into this:

dsq.src = '//' + disqus_shortname + '.disqus.com/embed.js';

Alex I do have a question

So to fix the facebook issue are you saying i should replace the og:url in my theme.liquad from this:

<meta property="og:url" content="{{ canonical_url }}" />

To This:

<meta property="og:url" content="http://example.com/" />

example being my site in my case

Please let me know

Hi everyone,

Thank you very much Shopify for enabling this feature - brilliant.

One client enabled SSL on their store and about a week later experienced an uncharacteristic drop in sales a week after SSL was enabled for a period of about 2 weeks.  

The sharp drop in traffic to the site according to analytics did not seem proportionate to the drop in sales.  In fact traffic to the site (from all channels) dropped by about 20% but sales dropped by about 80% for about period of 2 weeks.  

Everything returned to normal about 3 weeks after SSL was enabled.  In the period with the uncharacteristic drop, we had tried to cover all our bases by fixing up any holes.  One thing we did was to submit the https:// version of the sitemap (Incidentally if you submit the http:// sitemap all the URLs contained will also have http://. So we updated to the the https:// .. ie...  https://www.mystore.com/sitemap.xml in Google Search Console).  Not sure if this had any effect though, but about 3 days after this, things started picking up again.  

We were investigating all potential causes for the drop and I'm not convinced that the drop in organic traffic was due to SSL being enabled.  What has been the experience of others who have enabled SSL?   Any drop in sales / traffic?

SSL migrations should never cause a drop in sales or traffic. Firstly, you have to check all content is secure. Shopify does a brilliant job in helping you with this. It's the best system I've seen help users transition to SSL.

Secondly, you want to help Google understand the change. Test all redirects from old canonical versions of the pages (Shopify should handle this if you redirect to a primary domain in your online settings). Update Google Search Console to https version of the site. Submit the https version of the sitemap.

Keep an eye on your indexed data to ensure no unusual fluctations with the big G's ability to crawl the store.
