Shortening URLs

Hello,

I'm trying to find out if there are any possible ways to shorten my links, for Instagram specifically, since URLs are not clickable in photo captions on their platform currently. Essentially, what I would like to do, is shorten my current store link (www.partofthekult.com) to direct them to a redirect page, hosted on my store, which would then send them to the specific product featured in the post.

Currently, the redirect page would be like: http://partofthekult.com/pages/[PRODUCTNAME]

The [PRODUCTNAME] would change it something like, /Socks, /Tee, /NewNew. But I want the actual link to be like this:

http://partofthekult.com/NewNew, rather than contain the '/pages' part. Are there any possible ways to do this, or would it require my own site and ecommerce platform being custom built? I really don't want to leave Shopify, at all.

Hey Kult,

Joel here from Shopify!

One option that you should look into is using a URL redirect on Shopify. This will let you create a shorter link to share with your customers and will redirect to your actual product page URL.

For example, partofthekult.com/socks could redirect to partofthekult.com/products/socks

Setting up this redirect would look like this in your Admin:

You can create these redirects from the Online Store > Navigation page in your admin, and can read more about redirects here: https://docs.shopify.com/manual/your-website/navigation/url-redirect

Hope that helps!

Joel

Hi Joel,

Thanks for your reply. I've tried this method, but as the path I want to use for the redirect (the shortened version) doesn't actually exist to begin with, it doesn't seem to be working.

This is the redirect I've tried to set-up:

So I want http://www.partofthekult.com/products/666-enamel-pin/ to be reachable from http://partofthekult.com/pingame

Any tips on why this might not be working?

Hi Kult,

I just tired out your redirect and the issue appears to be the uppercase letters in your Old Path - using your current redirect, the URL would need to be entered exactly as /PinGame

Deleting that redirect and re-creating it as /pingame should make it easier to use URL for you and your customers!

Sam, you can also try flyt.it  https://apps.shopify.com/flyt  The app here will allow you to also track sales.

Yes this is some self promotion.

All you need to do is 1) Install the app, 2) Create short urls from http://flyt.it 3) Sales resulting from any clicks of the shortened flyt urls will magically show up in the flyt dashboard.

I feel bad about shopify experts. I can't believe no one tells you how to delete the simple codes in product-grid template.
