collection not showing on parent menu

i have set up what is referred as a nested menu. I have a parent menu item with 2 submenu categories. I want the parent menu to show all products in the subcategories and I have set up a collection as such. The collection is linked to the parent menu item but when it is clicked it merely drops down to show the subcategory options instead of showing subcategories AND linking to the collection. (when i removed the subcategories and made them separate menu items the collection displayed so im sure that it is linked correctly) I am new to shopify I set up my store about 7 days ago I am using the simple theme.

This is an accepted solution.

Hi, @ljones !

Katy here from Shopify. I hope all is well with you, and welcome to our Community here. I hope that you are enjoying setting up your store.

Great question and thanks so much for sharing a link to your store, this is very helpful. I do see what you mean here:

As I understand you would like, in this case for 'The Diva's collection' to also link to a specified collection.  This is possible to do, but would require adjusting your theme's code. We have a little more info on this in our guide here

However, being honest this can in cases cause more harm than good from a UX perspective. This is because when the drop-down is present, the main link acts a button to display the drop-down menu. When a customer then clicks on the menu to see the drop-down options, they are instead directed to the collection itself and vice versa- when wanting to access the parent menu in the navigation only, they will be presented with the drop-down menus.

I do understand that your main menu contains products from both of these collections, so if it is something that you would like to implement, our Theme support can take a look into this for you. I have sent you an email to confirm your details. Do feel free to reply to me if you would still like to go ahead with the change. I also appreciate that the wording in our help center guide may be a little bit misleading here, so have passed this feedback through to our internal team too.

As you continue to build out your store, you may also find the following resources helpful too:

I hope this helps. Do feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

Cheers,
Katy

I have a similar problem. I want to click on a parent link on the menu that takes me to a collection that shows all within that particular parent link. When I connect that parent to a collection, it creates a mega menu. I merely want it to be a simple drop-down menu like the others.

Thanks.

Hi,

Can you share the instructions on enabling the parent menu to be active.

Thanks

I can understand that people select the category in the nested drop-down that interests them.

My issue is that if I do select the main category that it says no products are listed in this category, though they do appear if I select the nested categories.

How do I avoid this?

https://owlaisle.com/collections/kitchen/towels+spreaders+coffee-mugs+kitchen-towels+cookie-cutters+  (shows no results)

https://owlaisle.com/collections/decor (shows products)

Between the two examples above I've obviously done something different,  not sure what I've done and which is the correct way.

Hi All,

I hope you are keeping well. I would like to apologize here for the lack of response on this thread. This account is no longer regularly monitored and I have updated my signature to reflect this.

I did, however, want to loop back to update this thread, and also in case others who stumble upon it may find it useful.

Regarding the first navigation item in a dropdown list e.g. the parent menu, this is displayed as a button instead of a link for some of our free themes. Themes that are built in this way include: Simple, Debut, Express, and Narrative.

This is an intentional design to help with accessibility; without this adjustment, customers browsing online with additional tools designed to help them read and understand websites may not be aware are that that the parent link controls a dropdown menu and isn't just a link to a new page. We have found that adding an extra link from the parent menu resulted in dropdown menus often being missed.

To offer some further context here, with these aforementioned themes, the navigation controls for the sub menu are implemented as an <a> element. As a result, users of assistive technology would expect this <a> element to link to a new page only, rather than it being used to indicate a dropdown menu or both a dropdown menu all while referencing another page.

Due to this we would no longer be able to help apply these changes on these themes, and would encourage merchants to keep this in mind. For those of you who wish to link this parent link to all products in the collection, a workaround here would be to create a dropdown menu from this main link titled ‘All’ or ‘All products’ for example:

@OwlAisle Regarding your own menu, it looks like you have some tags added in here which is preventing this from working for you:

04-43-pgkt1-lqkv3

When a tag is specified in the "Filter collection with tags (optional)" only products with this tag will be shown in the allocated collection. So for example, if you add more than one tag, each product in the collection must then have all listed tags in order for it to be pulled through. Here in this case the filter is looking for only the products which have all of these tags applied: towels, spreaders, coffee mugs, kitchen towels, cookie cutters rather than products with one or some of those tags.

I do apologize again for the delay on my part here. If you do feel like you are waiting for a reply, please feel free to reach out to our Support team at any stage should you need help. You can do so via our Help Center, via Facebook Messenger, Twitter, or by starting a new thread in our Community.

Morning all,

I am also have a similar issue in that I would like my parent menu links to click to a main collection ie when you clock on skincare it takes you to the skincare page of the site as well as the drop down menu. The drop down menu is as I wish however the main collection page isn't showing. I have linked it in the back end so not sure where I am going wrong. Any guidance would be great.
