my solution to creating a wholesale section on my store was to duplicated all of the products I wanted to offer and added "Wholesale -" to the front of the product title. Then I put them in a collection and locked access to it with locksmith.
This has worked well except for the fact that the invertories are not tied together any longer. Is there a way I can sync them while maintaining two seperate prices etc...?

We have a couple of options when it comes to syncing separate product inventories:
Take a look at those options, and let me know if I can lend a hand with anything else!

If you are still looking for a solution, our app Syncio does exactly what you need. You can sync the product to your Retail and Wholesale stores and customise the prices without affecting the inventory - the inventory will be centralised to whichever store has the master inventory.
Hope we can help - please message me if you are still on the look out!
Trunk can sync your inventories across everywhere you sell or across multiple Shopify stores. There are already businesses using it for their everyday operations.
We're currently in early-access, let us know if you'd like to try it out during this beta phase!
Connected Inventory is doing exactly what you needed. By simply assign the same SKU to the products for retail and wholesales, this app will get the inventory in sync to prevent overselling. This app has adopted the latest Shopify GraphQL API which is much more efficient than the old REST API.
You can use the Duplicate SKU sync app to keep the inventories of the wholesale and retail products in sync. Simply assign the same SKU to the the duplicated products and the app will keep the stock levels the same. It even works if you have multiple locations.
