Add note to order for new customers

Hello, I am seeking some help. I want to be able to "flag" orders that are for new customers (ordering for the first time ever). My goal is to provide new customers with a free product. I do not want the customer to be able to see that the new product has been added to their order so I believe that the easiest way to do this would be to add a note to the order. The note could be read by ShipStation and then ShipStation could flag the order so that when we fulfill orders we can sort by new customers and then add the free product to each package.

Please let me know if anyone is available to help us with a solution.
