Discounts In-Store vs Online

We have a brick and mortar store where we sell books. We also sell them via our website.

Our website charges $.50 more per book than if you visit us in the store.

Currently when someone visits our store and purchases a book we have to manually go and discount each item $.50 due to us having to price them higher for the online store. This is time consuming.

Does anyone have a way of us creating a barcode, or some sort of quick $/50 discount we can apply at time of purchase in store versus us having top manually discount and type in the discount each time?

Scenario:

"Book A" sells for $4.50 online. Customer comes in to store to purchase "Book A" and it rings up for $4.50. We then have to manually discount $.50 cents on this time at the POS, then complete transaction.

Thanks for any feedback or solutions that may help us.

This is an accepted solution.

Hey, there

This is Dallas from the Shopify Social Care team.

This isn't something that is available natively on Shopify, however, there are other steps that can be taken to solve the problem. For something like this, the best option will be to use an app that will allow you to create multiple prices for your products. The best option for this would be to use some of the apps used by wholesale businesses which would allow you to create a category of products to run a different price online.

Shopify has a few different options when it comes to wholesale type apps, but I think these three will be the most effective for what you're looking for.

Each one of these apps will provide you with the ability to offer different prices online and in person. Please note that even though you might use a wholesale app you don't actually have to sell wholesale to your customers. These apps just allow you to create separate pricing for the retail and for your online store.

If you're not wanting to spend money on a wholesale app then you can look into the app SimpleSync. It's a bit cheaper than the other ones. It basically just allows you to have multiple products and then it allows you to sync the inventory between them. This would allow you to create an online product as well as an in-person product.

To use this you will just need to duplicate the product(s) you want to be both online and on POS. Make sure to kee the same SKU for both, you can have different prices, tags, types, whatever. It might be worth adding (POS) to the title of the duplicated ones. Hide the POS ones from online, and hide the Online ones from POS. That setting can be found on the right-hand side of the product page.

The app will then sync the inventory between the 2 products automatically. Plus, in the event of a return, it will restock both and that sync happens instantly.

If you have a lot of products, you can just export the CSV, duplicate the products in excel and then import them back to Shopify. According to another Shopify store owner that took them about 10 mins to do.

These different options should help with what you're looking to do, but if you have any other questions at all please let me know.

Hey, there @2220357 !

I would love to help you create an online store. Have you ever sold online before? If you haven't created a Shopify account yet you can create one by going to this link here which will allow you to create a free 14-day trial.

Do you think you will be selling items that you have at your location or are you going to try something like dropshipping? Dropshipping is where you are able to sell products to your customers, but you don't have to hold on to any inventory at your location. When an order gets placed with you you would then order the products from the suppliers. Your suppliers would then ship the products out to your customers for you. A lot of people do this in order to save time and space in comparison to keeping all of their items with them and then having to make sure to ship them right away. If you're interested in doing that then I suggest you try looking at Oberlo which has some really awesome options for dropshipping products.

I have a link here that will take you to the Ulitmate Guide for Dropshipping. It breaks it all down so you have information to start step by step.

Are you able to tell me a bit about what you would like to sell?

I have added all of our contact numbers based on your region below:

  • North America: 1-888-746-7439
  • United Kingdom: 0800-808-5233
  • Australia: 03-8400-4750
  • New Zealand: 07-788-6026
  • Singapore: +658008526699
  • Hong Kong: +852800931270
  • Ireland: +353 1800 851 000

However, I do want to add that our phone lines operate on callback only. That means when you call in you'll be asked to schedule a callback, however, if the line is too long the callback feature is temporarily paused. If you're not able to request a callback then that would be why and you would just want to call in a little bit later.

With that said, I would love to see how I can help you out. Is there anything in particular that you're looking for assistance with?

Hello

How do you deal with displaying liquid pricing in the shopify store? EG. Aliexpress suppliers offer discounts on their pages ( by crossing over the existing price and offer discounted rate to direct buyers).I use Oberlo and Oberlo picks up the original price ( the one crossed over - not the one with discount) thus makes selling prices artificially inflated in the online store.

Thanks

Harry
