Hi All,

Just in case you missed it, we have released an app that takes care of this problem and are working on improving it to handle more use cases as well. You can find it here: https://apps.shopify.com/draft-orders-for-pos. It has a 5 day trial so you can easily check it out and test it to see if it works for your store.

It also works well with things like BookThatApp and all fields are preserved for the booking including the date and time, we have multiple clients using it with that specific use case.

If you have any questions about it, feel free to reach out to us directly.

Thanks @Aria - do you mean the full "[name].myshopify.com" address? Can I PM this to you? I've gotten some unwanted contact from Shopify experts in the past.

Edit: How this affects the business:

This is essentially for a hiring process.

We're having to completely bypass Shopify and manually enter a POS sale because if we use the parked sale we'd have to wait for the customer (who is a walk in) to open their email and pay via an online system. This is not practical for walk in customers as you can imagine.

So instead we bypass Shopify, then go back into book that app to complete the order number information for the customer and manually confirm the order.

Problems with this:

1. It opens itself up to more possibility of human error (more manual steps)

2. When reimbursing the client for their deposit (when they return the item), the client won't get a record in their website account (when they log in).

Thanks.

Thank you for clarifying.

I do need your store URL in order to add you to the feature request. Shopify staff don't communicate by PM on forums. If you're more comfortable reaching out to our support to have them add you to the feature request, you can do that here. If you use online chat or email, you can always link them to this post to speed things up a bit.

This app, Draft And Custom Orders For POS, (https://apps.shopify.com/draft-and-custom-orders-for-pos) solves this problem to the tee 🤗

Before this app, you would have to go into the Shopify Admin (on the computer) to create or edit a draft order, and then in order to checkout/charge a customer, you would have to email/send them the invoice link or charge them through your computer.

Now with this app, you can create a custom draft order right within POS, and you can add that draft order straight to the POS cart in order to checkout/charge the customer inside your retail store or in person. Much easier and simpler!

Link to the app: https://apps.shopify.com/draft-and-custom-orders-for-pos

More info: https://www.lazertechnologies.com/blog/draft-and-custom-orders-for-shopify-pos

With Draft And Custom Orders For Shopify POS you can now do the following all within the Shopify POS app for any device:

  1. Add existing products from your current inventory
  2. Create and attach a new service (including the length of the service, the per-hour rate, and any supplementary notes)
  3. Create and attach any new custom products that aren't currently in your inventory
  4. Specify a workflow status with your custom draft order (i.e. New, Estimate, Open, Pending, Completed)
  5. Create a new and/or attach an existing customer to the custom draft order
  6. Set a discount on the overall custom draft order
  7. Email the breakdown of the custom draft order to the selected customer
  8. Add the custom draft order straight to the POS cart

We have the same need for this functionality.  We have a technician that creates a draft order so they can add the right charges until the job is complete. BUT they don't take payment.  We need to be able to hold it as draft and retrieve at the POS for checkout.  We thought about having the tech do it in the POS app but, it would be a different device and different cart.   I"m happy to give our store information directly as well.

Hi VoltaireCO

Yes, this app would be perfect for that use case. There are a lot of bike
shops as customers who use it for that use case as well.

For your store, all of this can be done right within POS. For example when
a customer comes in and requests a repair, you can go ahead and create "New
Draft Order", select your customer, the workflow status (e.g. Open,
Pending, etc), add whatever line items you want (e.g. 1 Hour Diagnostic for
60 minutes at $75 per hour), add any notes you want to specific line items
or the draft order overall, create the draft order, and whenever you're
ready add to cart.

No need to add to cart right away... You can create the draft order, let it
sit there, and you can always revisit that same draft order and make edits
to it (e.g. adding new charges/repairs/line items), and then when you're
ready to check out the customer, add it to the POS cart and checkout the
customer in person.

All of this can be done within POS, no need for your staff member to go
into Admin anymore. I've attached a sample image below.

Thanks. Is there a way to do this with the admin module. The challenge is the key board. We have laptop for the bike tech as they have to go into other portals. Can this same workflow be done from the admin portal?
