I don't quite understand what you are saying. We need to be able to sell by a variable weight. Like selling peanuts by the pound.
Currently you can only enter whole increments as quantities in Shopify POS...you cannot enter 1.75 pounds for example.
So in that scenario, it seems your best bet would be to have variables and round.
So:
Product Title:
PEANUTS
Variants:
50 Grams - $1.00
100 Grams - $2.00
150 Grams - $3.00
200 Grams - $4.00
etc.
Though it sounds like an inventory nightmare, and if that isn't an option then you could have a product like:
PEANUTS
Variants:
1 Gram - $.02
And then you could add multiple of the Peanuts product variant to your cart. This would result in a lot more screen tapping, but would alleviate inventory frustrations.
So if a customer came up to the register with 243 Grams of Peanuts, you would tap / scan your Peanuts product. It would add 1 Gram to the cart, then you would tap on the Peanut product on the right hand of the screen and change the quantity to 243. Resulting in 243 Grams being charged to the customer and being removed from inventory.
The option of having to tap 243gr is definitely not an option. Imagine if the client wants 2.5kg of banana/peanuts! Worse, what are the chances that a bunch of bananas are exactly 2.5kg? 2.5kg would make me have to tap 2500 times!!
it is rediculous that Shopify didn’t feature this in its POS and that even apps like unit price even tough they do have a scale (with many issues), don’t update the inventory. You are trying to solve a problem and create another, and both service providers recommend each other 🏃🏾
I have followed several conversations around this topic and it goes for years yet not a solution seems to be on sight. Not important enough? Shopify only concerned with clothing retails like shirts? Food is what moves the world!
Hi @Mtattu @Bowhill @ShawnBouchard
Our company has completed 2 such apps that help for this use case:
For scanning random weight / price-embedded barcodes: https://apps.shopify.com/scan-price-embedded-barcodes
For selling products by weight and also integrating a weigh scale: https://youtu.be/N_dDjoPVC54 (still in beta, please send a PM if you are interested in trying it).
Hi @Popcornal that's great to hear! I can't seem to DM you, so please send me an email at hello@filljoy.co.
@policenauts1 my email doesn't seem to be going through with the address provided. Please let me know if you get it. Thanks!
@Popcornal I haven't received it, are you sure you entered in the email correctly as written (.co, not .com)? What is your email?
