Shopify POS UK - Amex Chip and Pin Process

When using an Amex card with Shopify POS in out UK store the process is very long winded and confusing for customers. 

Here's the flow.....

1. Start the payment

2. Customer tries contactless - Reader says "Tap not supported with this card please insert or swipe" 
3. Customer inserts card - Reader says "chip not supported please swipe" 
4. Customer swipes card - It then works and the sale goes through as normal

The problem is that it's very slow and confusing for the customer. 

Is anyone else having this problem with Amex cards on Shopify POS in the UK?
