Well, we were just about to switch our entire shop over to Shopify (online store, storefront, remote locations) and the one question we had was about tipping. It appears from this thread that not only does Shopify not have the ability for a customer to leave a tip, but that they don't care about the numerous requests about adding this feature. Very disappointed! We were excited to switch over to Shopify.
IT is still lacking, Have not heard, is shopify working on this or is it shelved? A real yes or no from the company would be appreciated. We need to make plans for our 2016 upcoming summer seasom where we run 5 rental and concessions. We have been in contact with shopify about this for over a year.
How about a work around. What we need is to preprint the receipt with the tip line. If the customer chooses to tip we then use the product called tip and go to checkout.
We would buy an app if it just did this but I understand shopify does not allow app developers access to the POS code.
Has anyone else heard of and/or have any experience implementing either of these workarounds for the tipping issue?:
I noticed some positive feedback in the comments, although there doesn't seem to be much follow up from the developer
It appears this solution allows you to provide a donation/tip field by adding liquid embed code to cart page. See 0:40 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5s_xtpME5do&noredirect=1
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'll report back when I install and test these~
I've been keeping an eye on this thread for months, and it's just sad that Shopify could care less about the tipping feature for POS.
I own a Bakery, and we desperately needed this feature. The unresponsiveness has forced us to migrate to Square for our bakery. We'll be canceling all of our Shopify services and I won't be reccomending Shopify any longer.
This is killing me as well. We have a business that is hybrid cafe and retail. Our customers are used to buying our retail products while also being able to place a coffee order. We currently use Square, which is great for cafe, and TERRIBLE for retail. It lacks fields for designers/vendors, dedicated barcodes, etc.
I would love to switch our entire shop over to Shopify POS, but our baristas rely on gratuity as an additional part of their income. Square's version of gratuity is simple. Under $10 brings up a selector with 3 options when you sign for your purchase - $1, $2 and $3. Anything over $10 brings up a percentage based selector (which we dont really require since we're not a full service restaurant, etc.). Any type of version of this in Shopify POS would be sufficient for the bulk of use cases. We'd be more than happy to make do with any variation of these options!
This is the one feature stopping us from moving our entire operation to Shopify POS. It's super frustrating.
If any of you use the iPad POS, I built a little app that is currently in "beta" mode: https://apps.shopify.com/tipslite
I just submitted for final review, so it should not be listed as being in beta for long.
Ok, I was convinced to bang out a new version of the app for use with your online store: https://apps.shopify.com/tipslite-web
I have set billing to TEST mode for the time being and am hoping to get help testing from anyone who is interested.
Please use the "Help" button in the app to communicate with me directly.
The web based tipping app (tipslite-web) works pretty well, but it does not have reporting. It is out of BETA.
The iPad app (tipslite) is not as good as Shopify does not allow us to display our app at a convenient time.
Luckily, both come with a five day trial so you can give 'em a shot and lemme know what you think.
