Using alternative hardware models

I can see various hardware being recommended... And when it comes to fx. cash registers - I'm wondering what makes it defined as being supported as not.

Fx the Star Micronics model 37964220

Is there any specific reason why a model from Star Micronics in the same series with fx. 6 coins slots wouldn't work?

I'm planning on setting up Shopify POS in Denmark and need a cash register that support 6 coin slots...

Brandon here from the Shopify Guru Team :)

When it comes to the cash drawer as long as it is compatible with the Star Micronics TSP650ii then it should work fine.  The cash drawer doesn't communicate with the POS app, it communicates with the printer.  

If you run into issues with it not working we wouldn't be able to offer support for it though, and you would need to reach out to Starmicronics directly.
