We retail our products in-store in bulk and sell everything by weight (grams), making no two sales exactly alike. Our unit cost, in some cases, is less than $0.01/gram, or requires pricing to 4 decimal points to reflect our unit pricing in Quickbooks.
I have 2 questions about the POS system: 1) Can Shopify support weight based pricing to 4 decimal points?; 2) Alternatively, can Shopify support unit values >1 (i.e. 0.75kg)?
Hi there Nikki!
Don here from Shopify. :)
Thanks for outlining your query so clearly for us here.
I have checked in with our POS specialists here who let us know that this would not currently be possible with the app as it currently is.
What I can do for you from here, however; is to file a feature request with our developer team to let them know that this is being requested by our merchants.
We'll work on hopefully expanding this functionality in a future build of the platform and the POS app so that you can better serve your business needs. :)
All the best!
I asked for this from Nov 2018
Some App developer made something up https://sell-by-x-shopify-app.herokuapp.com/install
You can reach out to them
Not sure if its completed or not
We didn't up using it
Yes we (Pixelsafari) did indeed develop a POS app to sell by weight and more. At the moment the app is at it’s finishing touches and should be published within the Shopify app store after the assessment of the app is over.
If you would like me to inform you, I could send you an E-Mail as soon as the app made it’s way into the app store. Feel free to message me (firstname.lastname@example.org) or our support (email@example.com) if you would like a notification or more information about the app.
Always happy to help or simply have a chat :)
I would suggest that you have the volume of your product pricing as the units of pricing, so for example if someone is buying at minimum 1 gram of product then it is priced by the gram in your system.
Therefore your product, if priced at 10 cents per gram, be priced at "$0.10" per unit in your POS and then just enter the number of grams purchased at checkout. This would require you to reprice your products into grams rather than kilograms, but it might work for you.
That is also a possible way to price by weight, but a lot of work, just for one sale and you would have to repeat that process every time anew - which is why we wanted to help merchants get a simpler process. As of now, you will be able to sell your products in different units (like grams) at the price you choose and are able to adjust the settings as you like. If you would like to test the app yourself, I will be happy to inform you as soon as the app will be launched and published by Shopify. The app will be called "Unitpricer" and we are very exited and looking forward to your and other peoples feedback!
With best regards,
The app is online and available now. You can test it for free for 14 days right here: https://apps.shopify.com/sell-by-x
Feel free to contact us via the app for support if you have any issues or send us an E-Mail towards firstname.lastname@example.org for feedback.
I hope the app will be able to help a lot of merchants and I am looking forward to your experiences with the app!
Hi, is there any way to add support for reading weight embedded barcodes to your app? Like the kind that you find at grocery stores that sell prepacked meat and produce by weight with and encoded barcode then the POS terminal reads that barcode and takes the SKU and weight from it and updates the customer cart automatically.
