Restrictions for payments gateway when using subscriptions API?

Hi, I'm planning to build a private app that is using Shopify Subscription APIs. I see an article here and this is exactly what I need for my app:

https://www.shopify.com/partners/blog/shopify-subscription-apis

Is this subscription API restricted to only use "Shopify Payment" provider, or I can use any Direct Payment provider/gateway from this list

https://www.shopify.com/payment-gateways/united-states

as for example Braintree or Quick Books?

Thank you!

This is an accepted solution.

I'm seeing these are in development for this year:

Additional gateway: PayPal ExpressQ1 2021
Additional gateways: Stripe, Authorize.netQ2 2021

The first post of this forum area links to the FAQ that answers your question.

1. Private apps cannot access the subscription API (the required scopes are not grantable to private apps)

2. At present, the only payment gateway supported is Shopify Payments.

The best place to stay up to date on limitations is that FAQ page.

Thank you for you quick reply!

I guess I can use a custom app, so there's no problem here.

Are you planning to add more payments gateway to the Subscription API in the near future?

Thanks!

Hi Cose,

Where did you get information about timeline? I am also looking for subscription app that will work with Authorize.net for my store but couldn't find any.

Appreciate if you can share more information or source of these timelines.

Thanks

Hi,

I've found that in the FAQ section:
https://shopify.dev/concepts/apps/subscriptions-faq

If you scroll down you will see "Which subscription features are in
development and when are they being released?"

Hope this helps...

Thanks,
Cose
