Adding H1 Tag in Index Debut Theme

Hello, I would like to add an H1 Tag to my index page for SEO purposes. When I add it in the code and then inspect the element in the browser I don't see the tag. This means it is somehow not being read by the browser which is what is important for SEO? This is where I need the H1 Tag (highlighted in the screenshot):

And this is how it looks in the code:

This is my working theme: https://gokynnse5kujdgu8-24792738.shopifypreview.com

Any help is appreciated! Thank you so much!

Hi,
Actually you're editing wrong file, I don't think it will be custom-content.liquid

Hello,

I had a quick look at your shop.

From what I can see, changing the Gürtel part to an h1, will most likely not achieve what you want and will result in new SEO problems. If you manage to change the section header to an h1, this will also affect HANDTASCHENHIPBAGS, ARMBÄNDER and SPECIALS on your index page. Leaving you with multiple h1 tags, which Google doesn't really like.

A better approach would be to either:

1. wrap the TARTAR Ledermanfukator Logo in the beginning of the site an h1 and provide an alt text there.

2. add a separate h1 element, something like Our Products

@ManuelKruiszthanks so much for your help! How would I add the alt text to this image?

@Elisaw You're welcome

Basically, you'd have to make the element with id="header-2" an h1 and add an alt="THE TITLE TEXT" to the image.

Resulting in something like the following:

<h1 id="header-2" class="main style2 padding-mobile-35" style="
      position: relative;
      width: 100%;
      padding-top: 0px;
      padding-bottom: 35px;
      text-align: center; ">
    <a>
      <img src="https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2479/2738/files/TARTAR-webheader_2f64f81d-e65a-4f1e-99ab-6766355f38de.jpg?17689223928869986124"
      alt="ALT TEXT GOES HERE"
      style="
      max-height: 275px;
      margin: 80px 0 20px 0px;
      padding: 20px;">
    </a>
  </div>

I can't tell exactly if this part of the page is using an existing section provided by the theme that you could customize in the admin, or whether you'd need to edit the HTML manually. The comments before and after this part, let me assume that the latter might be the case.

@ManuelKruiszThanks again I am editing the code but it is written like this:

{% if template contains "collection" and collection.handle == "tartar-care" %}
{% assign logo_src="https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2479/2738/files/TARTAR-Care-Logo-Web-transparent.png?v=1614004087" %}
{% else %}
{% assign logo_src="https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2479/2738/files/TARTAR-webheader_2f64f81d-e65a-4f1e-99ab-6766355f38de.jpg?17689223928869986124" %}
{% endif %}

That's why I am not too sure how to add the alt-text. Do you know?
