Blurry Logo, Trouble with Heading, Out of the sandbox theme.

Hi all--

I am NOT very tech-savvy, so be gentle :)

I've been trying to change the logo/heading at the top of my site www.alexsgardenstudio.com. I made the heading in Canva at 760x100 pixels (and TONS of other sizes too, just to see how they looked). They are crystal clear when I upload to Facebook or my Newsletter...but NEVER clear on the website. I just can't figure it out and it's frustrating.

I actually would prefer to have a big heading there and not have to blow up my logo, but I can't put a photo ABOVE the menu in the theme, so I'm stuck doing it this way. The only way it looks clear is if it is teeny-tiny, but that looks stupid ha!

Any help appreciated, thank you!!

Hey, @AlexGilbert!

My name is Lilith, I'm on the Social Care team at Shopify. I see on your site you have a countdown to your new site launch. This is exciting!

From the sounds of it, there might be a resolution situation happening. I'd be happy to point you in the right direction. You're using a third-party theme created by Out of the Sandbox, so I dug into their help center and found this amazing guide on image size recommendations. It covers dimensions and resolutions that they suggest using for their themes.

At first glance at the site you linked, it looks like you might be using the theme called Responsive from their collection. Although the official logo header size is a width of 720px and 100px for height, this would mean that the image that you upload will be shrunk down to whichever dimension is the smallest of those two dimensions. I'd recommend going with a much larger resolution to meet the 72 DPI for web viewing, especially with finer details I see in your Facebook Cover Image logo. You may even want to place it within a 2:1 or 2.5:1 ratio for length and height. The less blank space you have on the left and right side, the closer the image can fit in the width that you desire. I've taken a sample screenshot from your Facebook page logo here to show you what I mean:

Should you need to change the resolution or dimensions of your current logo, you can resize it within Canva without creating a new design. If you created your logo in Canva, this will ensure that your images stay vectorized in the design so it will not become pixelated if you need to enlarge it. I've used InDesign for many years, but I absolutely love Canva and how user-friendly it is. I'm glad you are using it!

However, if you'd like to have your header modified to maybe allow for a wider image across the page or perhaps to change the dimension restrictions, I'd highly recommend touching base with one of our Shopify Experts. We have some great development experts that may be able to modify that theme header a bit for you. It could be possible to add an image instead if that might be what you originally envisioned.

While looking at your site, I did notice that you were missing your Facebook page link.

I love that you have your Instagram on there as your business is within a visual-based industry. This is fantastic! It might also be great to make sure that your site visitors can find you on Facebook as well. This might give you the chance to create more buzz surrounding the new site launch. Facebook pages are a commonly used method to implement pre-launch marketing techniques. It's a great way to interact with your audience and be able to let them get to know you better as well! After all, your product is about your art and the amazing skills that you teach.

Let me know if that helped! I'm happy to answer any questions you think of as you work on your business.

 Hi Lilith!!

Thank you so much for your thoughtful reply, I really appreciate it.

So...I've been trying to resize, and resize, and resize, and nothing I do is working...

When you say to try and go with a much larger resolution, do you mean just increasing the pixel size? I tried a bunch of different sizes but they all uploaded blurry even though they're crystal clear when I download them from Canva. This is just so NOT my area of expertise and I'm a little frustrated. I have about 100 files saved now that all look good when I open them and bad when I upload them to the website.

Any other tips you can give would be appreciated, thanks again!
