making this post because I cant seem to find this very specific issue anywhere on the forum here.

See my screenshot. I cant seem to make these tags go away in the filter list. I deleted the tags from the ONLY item I have in the store.

How do I make these tags go away?

I am having the same issue and would like to follow this support item. Filters on the Collections pages will not go away even if no products have tags that reflect those filter options.

  1. Make sure it's actually tags
    1. Depending on theme filtering may be a a navigation menu https://shopify.com/admin/menus
    2. Or hardcoded in theme templates or javascript files
  2. Tags should be deleted when no products have that tag
    1. make sure there are no products with that tag by searching and filtering by tags in the products admin https://shopify.com/admin/products?tag=TAGNAME
    2. or https://shopify.com/admin/bulk?resource_name=Product&edit=tags
  3. Test for Cache Issues
    1. Clear your browser cache, or use a private browser tab, or a VPN to see the page from a different region
    2. Disable the tag filter in the theme settings wait a bit then reenable it and retest
    3. Make a duplicate theme and preview it to see if these "ghost tags" are still showing up

I resolved the issue for myself by going into the theme I am using, disabling the filtering by group, then re-enabling. That forced it to regenerate correct filters.

Hello,

I have had this problem before and solved it by exiting the theme editor and going back in.  It seems like the theme you are editing doesn't update realtime as you are editing products, so you have to refresh it somehow, like I did by exiting and going back in, or like you did by disabling and re-enabling.
