How to setup a validation for a customer who tries to re-subscribe to the signup form ?

Hi Community,

I would like to know as how can I setup a validation on the sign-up form or popup where in if the the same customer uses the same email address and tries to subscribe, the form should display a message "You are already subscribed!"?
