Migrating over to shopify in the next week. If my product variants/drop downs (from my current cart of close to 14,000 products) do not migrate over - how do I do a mass/bulk edit of my entire product catalog --- to mass add the variants/dropdowns I have?
I did a test and added variants manually to a product and then ran an export of my 10 test products. I could not figure out how to duplicate what I had for the (1) test product and mass add that same info to the other products in the spreadsheet.
I'm switching to Shopify because it seemed superior, in comparison to my current cart of 8 years, but not being able to mass add a simple list of drop-downs should not be so difficult. My current cart can mass update the variants list for all 14,000 products in just one click.
Can anyone show me the way please? I need this info urgently so I can get the store up and running next week.
Thank you!
Jen
From which ecom are you immigrating from?
You can bulk import all of your products and its respective variants with an excel file. You can take a look here for further detailed information.
I'd suggest to try importing a single product via the CSV file just to double check it's correctly importing all of its variants.
Finally, if you have really can't make it happen I'd suggest contacting the Shopify support, they're really helpful and I'm sure they'll get this fixed for you quickly.
Kind regards,
Diego
Hi Jen,
My name is Alison, and I'm the Customer Success Specialist for Ablestar apps.
All of the variants for any given product will share the same 'Handle', this is what ties them together. The 'Option Name' fields (1-3) contain the label for the variants (like 'size' or 'color'), and the 'Option Value' fields hold the data (like 'red', 'green', 'blue' or 'small', 'medium', 'large'). These are the fields you will need to pay attention to in order to import variants correctly.
If you do not want to do it manually, there are apps available that help with migrating data to Shopify that may help. If you are migrating from WooCommerce our Woo Importer app can migrate the products with all their variants automatically.
Another thing to keep in mind is that Shopify only allows for 100 variants per product by default. If you have more than 100 variants, you will need another app to create and manage them, and that app may have features that make importing variants easier. In addition to the limit on the number of variants, there are restrictions on the number of variants you can import daily. Once you hit 50,000 variants you will be throttled to importing 1000 variants per day. If you decide to use another app to help you migrate your data, it would still be limited by these restrictions. Only Shopify has the ability to lift them.
I hope this helps. You can reach out to us directly at support@ablestar.co if you have any other questions.
Best,
Alison

@Alison6 Thank you. I found an app to organize my variants AFTER the products move over but was hoping to have them move over from 3D cart to Shopify easier.
From what the migration company I was going to use told me, my variants from 3D cart won't come over with it.
