Hi, all, and most importantly - Shopify!
Our customers started to experience the following error when creating large volumes of products:
Response code = 429. Response message = Too Many Requests. Product: Daily SKU limit reached. Please try again later.
This is an error being returned by Shopify API when creating more than 5000 Products per day.
I cannot find any official announcement from Shopify regarding this issue.
Is anybody else experiencing this?
Shopify, can you please, comment on what is this, and what do we need to do to get past this limit?
These are forums are more partner to partner style , to get direct shopify support : firstname.lastname@example.org
Are you on the basic plan or advanced?
If you resolve this remember to update
Sorry if I didn't write in the correct place. I was hoping it will start a discussion and maybe somebody else has this same issue.
We are the Shopify Partner / Excelify app developer.
This issue concerns store APIs and any users of any apps who are loading large quantities of data into their stores.
I can confirm that I have been exchanging e-mails with Shopify about this issue for 10 days already.
Here's the summary of what information we have from Shopify to share:
The daily SKU limit has been introduced for some shops that have over 100,000 variants, and are rapidly creating more.
The limit prevents the shop from creating more than 5,000 new variants a day with the API.
This is done to ensure the stability of the platform.
The rest of the details will be answered separately by Shopify for each shop who runs into this limit.
Sorry if I didn't write in the correct place.
It's the right place for parter to partner convos like you said apologies, but don't hold your breath for shopify feedback here they might respond they might not /shrug.
There are some other threads on api limits but you gotta dig em up. Almost all i've seen are "fix your rate limiting algorithm" or "contact shopify" with hat in hand. Even though I grok your app and how it might need to do that many creates, their argument seems really against you getting a free instant pass on limit breaks when a customer needs it.
So the stores already have that much then they want to create 5,000 MORE each day? OOF yeah their gonna need direct shopify clearance individually comes across as abusive.
I'd put money the other reason is to cripple anyone trying to use shopify as an amazon style market place.
This all coming from Plus stores?
So this limit is just per store and it is not kicking back to your app then hurting other stores right?
If not probably a hard sell to get limits raised each time, sounds like a chore might have to redo( or asterik) your pricing plans since you may be unlimited shopify isn't in this situation.
Paul - Plus shops won't see that throttle.
I'd hope so but afaik there's no hard docs clarifying who gets what caps when, only: "daily SKU limit has been introduced for some shops that have over 100,000 variants.....", etc in emails
when it happens after it happens.
Well no hard docs from shopify about it https://excelify.io/2018/12/05/shopify-daily-sku-limit-for-products/

Hey, @PaulNewton !
Thank you so much for pointing it out - we are also at Unite, but really appreciate you making sure I get this.
However, sadly, this doesn't resolve the daily variant creation limit. ;)
